Christmas Cheer
If you know me, you realize I’m not a big holidays kind of person. I hate the rabid consumerism that fuels Christmas and horribly cheesy music. (With the exception of the few horribly cheesy songs I’ve posted for Christmas.
)
I was out Christmas shopping today. Well, I was supposedly shopping for family, but darn that Victoria’s Secret 5 for 25 sale! Anyway, I was shopping for myself when my friend Amanda twittered/tweeted (?) about her latest blog post. Now THIS is what makes me feel better about Christmas.
For every blog post comment Amanda gets until 8:00 pm EST, she is going to donate 25 cents to Heifer International. She is capping it at 400 posts due to budget constraints. Heifer International mainly focuses on fighting hunger, but it seems they do much more than that as well. I suggest you check out their site.
Amanda got the idea from Nathan Bransford, a literary agent with a big heart. He’s offering to donate $1 for every comment until 5pm Pacific time, with a $1000 cap. Even though I’m late joining the game today, I have the advantage of Eastern time zone friends.
Get to it people! Go post on Amanda’s and Nathan’s blog. Snap, snap! And then pass it on!
BUT don’t forget to leave a comment here for me! I’m jumping into the game, too. My rules will be more similar to Amanda’s. (My job doesn’t offer the wonderful budget I’d like to have.
)
For every comment on this post, I will donate 50 cents. My cap is 300. I’ll also extend my deadline until midnight Eastern time.
Since I got started so late, I will stop counting comments after midnight on Christmas Eve instead!! You have more time. Spread the word!
Bring it on people. Post a comment for charity that includes your name, location, and the name of your favorite Christmas movie.
*On a side note, I’ve wanted to give charitable donations as Christmas presents for years. Maybe next year I’ll make that my goal. This kind of stuff makes me feel much better about the season.*
Hooray!!! Thanks so much for participating!

Nathan Bransford- Thanks for the idea! It’s a great one.

Hi Regan,
I’m Mags. It’s nice to meet you.
This is a comment.
Have a wonderful holiday season! Much as it’s not your thing, this is the kind of post the season’s made for, so I’m wishing you a happy one none-the-less.
Sincerely,
Mags

This is a hard one! I love Elf (you really must see it) and A Christmas Story.
Unbelievably, I’ve never seen It’s a Wonderful Life. We should start a club for people who haven’t seen classics.

Favorite holiday movie? I wanna say Lethal Weapon or Die Hard, but the honest answer is–Muppet Christmas Carol.

Every year we watch It’s A Wonderful Life and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. I know… just a bit of contrast there.
Thanks so much to Nathan for starting the “Heifer ball” rolling, and to you for doing this. You posted on my “Heifer blog” (MuseInks.blogspot.com), so I’ll post on yours.

Favorite Christmas movie: While You Were Sleeping. (I’m such a sap for holiday chick-flicks…). The Muppet Christmas Carol is a close second.
Happy holidays!
Ooo, I’m squeezing in just before the timer dings.
I’m hopping on the fundraiser bandwagon too; feel free to hold me accountable.
Hmm… favorite Xmas movie? I’m not sure I’ve got one. But it’s snowing here in Denver and we don’t often get white Xmases, and that makes me feel somehow dreamy and fuzzy which in turn makes me think of the strange scene in Sid and Nancy where they’re kissing by a dumpster and trash is falling around them like snow and it’s very poignant in an otherwise, er, disturbing movie. So yeah. I’m running with S&N for lack of a better more explicitly xmas kind of movie to mention.

I don’t have a favorite Christmas movie, but my Christmas presents this year are pictures of me—pushing two hugely full shopping carts full of groceries for the food bank.

I will be visiting all your blogs ASAP, but it might have to hold until after Christmas.
Nice! This is great.
Uh, what’s the clay-mation movie with the elf that wants to be a dentist? Rudolph? That’s the one I like.
Have a great one!

My fave Christmas movie was a made for TV move from the 70’s called “The House Without a Christmas Tree” and it had Jason Robards and Mildred Natwick in it. Made me cry every time. I wish they’d put it on dvd.

Favorite Christmas movie is my all-time favorite movie – Love Actually
